Player Notes: Left-winger Hanson represented Liverpool for 6 seasons during the 1930's. He first appeared during the second half of the 1932-33 season and then missed only 13 league games out of a possible 84 over the next two years. Injury kept him out for most of the 1935-36 season but he returned the next year to be the club's only ever-present with 13 goals from those 42 games. He made a further 42 league and FA cup appearances in his final year at Anfield and finished with the very respectable total of 52 goals from 177 matches. He joined Chelsea in the summer of 1938, but his professional career was effectively over with the outbreak of World War II. Alf was player-manager of a few amateur teams after the war.
Alf says that he was actually born Hansen because his family was from Norway. He didn't explain why it was changed. He was always reported in the newspapers as Hanson. |
