Player Notes: Nunez was spotted by Real in 2001 playing for third division side CD la Rozas. He played in the reserve team until 2003-2004 when he managed 13 games for Real Madrid as a utility player in their star-studded team. He scored on his debut for Real on 2nd of September 2003 against Villareal. A dream come true for the boyhood Real fan.
Nunez was valued at 1,5 million pounds in Owen's 10 million pound move from Liverpool to Real Madrid. Nunez didn't set the world alight at Liverpool, but he won a treasured Champions League medal and became the first Liverpool player to score his first goal in a major final towards the end of the 2005 League Cup final loss to Chelsea.
It wasn't a major surprise that Nunez moved back to Spain in the summer of 2005 to join Celta Vigo, who had just been promoted back to the Spanish First Division only one season after being relegated from it. After three seasons in Vigo, the player then agreed to join Real Murcia who, having finished in 19th place in La Liga in the 2007-08 season, had just been relegated back to the Spanish Second Division. |
