Player Notes:
Many Liverpool fans got the shock of a lifetime when the former Arsenal player who ruined our title dreams in the most dramatic fashion in May 1989 joined Liverpool. Thomas made himself more popular though when he scored a tremendous goal in the FA Cup final versus Sunderland at the end of his first season. Souness liked his versatility as Thomas was able to play as a right back, centre half and midfield.

Thomas had his fair share of injuries and his career never really took off at Liverpool until in the 1995/96 season when he finally showed his worth. He displayed his box-to-box atleticism and played a holding role in midfield allowing Barnes freedom to attack. His career was on the downturn again after two good seasons and he joined Souness at Benfica.
