Liverpool 3 - 0 Newcastle United

Notes

  • - Phil Thompson remembers "the finest match I've played in": "We beat Newcastle 3-0 and it could have been double," maintained Thompson. "It was the best Liverpool display of my long time at Anfield. The European Cup win of 81 when I was skipper may be my greatest achievement but the match itself wasn't that great. Not that it mattered. However, Wembley was very different. We were a class apart. I've always said that Scousers, Geordies and Glaswegians are all the same. We all have humour and a passion for football. We're community-driven. And it showed at Wembley when both sets of supporters stayed to party together."
