1st Division

Anfield | Saturday 1 February 1969 at 15:00 UK local time

Liverpool 1 - 0 Sheffield Wednesday

Notes

  • - Roger Hunt breaks Gordon Hodgson's league scoring record for Liverpool. The belief at the time was that he had broken it a couple of weeks earlier against Chelsea, but there had been a mistake in the accumulation of Roger Hunt's scoring total.

    - Liverpool fan Michael Schofield remembers his first game standing on a beer crate at a wall on the Paddock: "At one stage Ian Callaghan kicked the ball into touch and as the ball rocketed towards me, I ducked down behind the wall fearing for my life. There was a resounding thwack as the ball hit the other side of the Paddock wall."
