I never looked at opposing keepers. I would plant the ball on the spot, aim to the keeper's right, strike with the outside of my left foot and find some swerve. On that occasion, I had some power in the shot, but it was only a yard wide of their keeper. He went down on one knee and pushed out an arm in the other direction. The goal was at the Kop end and I hadn't realised how close we were to the final whistle. Seconds later, it was all over." |
