  • - Liverpool were 2-0 down after 18 minutes. Balmer's brilliant left-foot shot from 25 yards lightened the gloom. Collingridge made it 3-1 right before half-time. Liverpool staged a comeback in the second half. Liddell reduced the arrears with a right-foot shot which would have knocked White into the middle of next week had he got in the way of it. A neat sideways kick by Balmer as he was tripped made the scores level.
