League Cup Final replay

Maine Road | Wednesday 28 March 1984 at 19:45 UK local time

Liverpool 1 - 0 Everton
Half time 1–0

Notes

  • - Graeme Souness recalls: "It was a great occasion for the city of Liverpool to have two teams in the final. It meant a lot to people. We were very lucky to come away from the first game with a draw; there were some harsh words exchanged at half-time, Alan Hansen cleared one off the line and there was some debate about it being handball. The replay was dour but memorable for me as I scored. I mis-controlled it and had my back to goal but flashed a leg at it and it just dipped in front of Everton keeper Neville Southall before going in. It was a bit ad hoc when we were presented with the trophy. A fan got in the way between me and Bruce Grobbelaar as I passed it down the line but it was all good fun."
