Player profile

Right-back Josemi was the first buy of Rafael Benítez. He was a tough player who received on average a yellow card in every third game in Spain. He struggled to adapt to life in England after a promising start to his Liverpool career. His first season was ravaged by injury problems and poor form and Steve Finnan established himself in his absence. The Spaniard returned home with Villareal after one and half season with the Reds, but one European champions' medal richer. Josemi only played one game as the Yellow Submarine finished second in La Liga in the 2007/08 season. He was transferred to Mallorca in the summer of 2008 where he played more regularly before signing a three-year contract with Iraklis Thessaloniki in Greece in August 2010. Josemi was relegated with Iraklis in 2011 and returned home, but suffered the same fate with Cartagena who were relegated to Spain's Third Division. He moved again to Greece in 2012, joining Levadiakos.
