Player profile
Centre-forward John Thomas Smith, more commonly referred to as Jack, played amateur football for Bromborough on the Wirral before signing professional forms for Liverpool in March 1951 when he was 23-years-old. He scored after 18 minutes of his debut for the club when Derby County were beaten 2-0 at Anfield on 29 September 1951 and in fact netted in three of his first four appearances but only managed another three goals in the remaining 23 first division fixtures he was selected for that season. A year later he scored eight times from the same number of League matches, 27, but after dropping almost altogether out of the first-team picture during the club's relegation year of 1953/54, he was transferred to third division south's Torquay United.
