Player profile
Donald Sloan was a reserve to goalkeeper Billy Scott at Everton for two years before moving across Stanley Park. He was one of 27 players selected at various stages of the 1908/09 first division season. The club's first-choice 'keeper at that time was Sam Hardy and Sloan stepped in for the six fixtures that he missed that year. Sloan didn't keep a 'clean sheet' in any of those games and conceded 13 goals, finishing on the winning side twice. Sloan left in the summer of 1909 to become player-manager at his old club, Distillery, in Belfast. Sloan died on New Year's Day 1917 while serving The Black Watch, an infantry battalion of the Royal Highlanders of Scotland. He was killed on the front in France and is buried at the Faubourg D‘Amiens cemetery at Arras.
