Player Profile

Scott's move from Darlington to Liverpool was quite controversial as Everton claimed that they had were supposed to sign him along with John O'Donnell who had been secured by the Blues from Darlington a week earlier. Darlington told them that he had already signed for Everton's rivals, Liverpool. Darlington claimed the deals for the two players were supposed to be separate and that the player had no interest in signing for Everton. In the end Darlington compensated Everton to the tune of £250 for this matter the following August. When interviewed by Liverpool Echo's Bee shortly after his arrival to Liverpool, Scott revealed why he had turned down Everton: "I did not think I should stand much chance of getting into the first team and the cost of their reserve side, and it put me off them. Besides I had played at Anfield and was impressed by the ground, the people and so on. If Liverpool had not signed me I should have stayed at Darlington. I should never have gone to Everton."

The clever forward was on Liverpool’s books for four years in the 1920’s but only made 18 first-team appearances in that time. He made his debut at Preston on 14 March 1925 and scored the first of his four goals for the club at Leeds a fortnight later. Scott scored a total of 76 Football League goals in 204 games in his career.
