Player Profile
Pither had played 16 League matches and scored six goals for Merthyr Town in Third Division South when he joined Liverpool in the first part of the 1926/27 season. He played a dozen matches exclusively as replacement left-winger for the established Fred Hopkin, in the 1926/27 season and 1927/28. Pither's only goal for the club came on the first day of October 1927 when Portsmouth were crushed 8-2 at Anfield with the other scorers being William Devlin with four and Gordon Hodgson who scored a hat-trick. After 18 months at Anfield Pither returned to the third tier of League football with Crewe Alexandra, playing 38 League games and scoring 11 before joining New Brighton in 1929.
