Player Profile
McRorie arrived at Liverpool in controversial circumstances as following an investigation by the Scottish Football League Commission it was confirmed that Morton had made an illegal payment to McRorie when he was transferred to Liverpool. The Morton club was fined £150 and the Chairman of the club, Mr. Urquhart, was suspended indefinitely from taking any part in football. The manager, Mr. Torrance, was fined £25 and the other directors were severely censured. McRorie had a great reputation as a player as he had been the Scottish first division's leading scorer with 18 goals in just 16 matches in his last campaign at Morton. McRorie played just three times during the 1930/31 season and notched the first of his six Liverpool goals in an amazing game at Roker Park, Sunderland on 6 December 1930. His strike just before the interval gave Liverpool hope at 3-4 but in a match with many twists and turns the home side eventually ran out winners by six goals to five.
Outside-right McRorie didn't make the team during the opening weeks of the following season but then played in 25 of the last 29 first division fixtures. His third and final season at Anfield saw him selected for first-team action on just five more occasions.
