Player Profile
Primarily known as one of the smallest men ever to feature at Liverpool, being only 5 ft. 4 ins. (162 cm), accomplishing though to be two inches taller than Fred Geary! The Liverpool Echo feared left-winger Jones might get the "brush-off" from taller and stronger opponents that is if they could "get down low enough" to administer their shoulder charge but were impressed by his "lively, almost cheeky" debut against Fulham in March 1952.
Bangor-born Jones figured three times towards the end of the 1951/52 season and then made one further appearance in November 1952. He also played in one FA Cup tie for the Reds, the ignominious third round defeat at third division north's Gateshead in January 1953.
Jones was transferred to Scunthorpe United in July 1953 and totalled 392 League games and 51 goals in his career which also saw spells at Crewe, Chester, Lincoln City and Gainsborough Trinity. After retiring from playing he spent 31 years with Clugston Group as an estimator.
