Player Profile
Gray played for Transvaal in South Africa for five years before joining Liverpool in 1926. The fearless Scottish left-back made just one appearance for Liverpool's first team in the third League fixture of the 1928/29 season. A late goal by Dick Edmed was not enough to prevent the Reds going down 2-1 at home to Sheffield United. Gray is remembered as one of Exeter's best-ever players, part of the side who finished runners-up in Third Division South. He played 221 games for Exeter from 1930-1936. Gray was granted a testimonial match on 1 May 1935 where Liverpool faced Exeter. In August 1938 it was reported Gray had signed for South Liverpool. He was working at a local firm and would turn out for the team when needed. South Liverpool was then managed by Gray's former teammate, Jimmy McDougall.
