Player profile
"Slow but sure" and comfortable on the ball, right-back Goldie was one of numerous Scottish players to represent the club in its early years. He was bought to strengthen the squad who had been relegated in 1895 and helped to immediately restore the club to the top division. Goldie played 22 times in that promotion season of 1895/96 and only missed one match the following year as Liverpool consolidated themselves in the First Division by finishing in fifth place. Goldie's only Liverpool goal also came in that season, but his late strike at Sunderland could not prevent a 4-3 defeat at Roker Park. He played regularly for the club in the next three seasons and for over half that period was joined in the side by his brother Bill, also bought from Scottish club Clyde.
