Player profile
Checkland made five consecutive League appearances for Liverpool early in the 1921/22 season when he replaced right-half John Bamber who had contracted appendicitis. However, Jock McNab soon made the position his and Checkland never played for Liverpool's first team again. In 1923/24 Checkland moved to Tranmere Rovers where he featured in 17 games in Third Division North over the next couple of seasons.
