Player profile
Baron's opportunity at Liverpool arrived relatively late in the 1924/25 season. After making his first-team breakthrough in March 1925, he enjoyed an excellent opening spell in front of goal, finding the net five times from nine league appearances. Liverpool went on to complete the First Division campaign in fourth place. That productive introduction didn't lead to a permanent position in the team. During 1925/26, Baron featured in only ten league matches and scored twice. With his appearances becoming increasingly limited, he was unable to build on the momentum of his first few months at Anfield. By the beginning of 1927 his Liverpool career was drawing to a close. A New Year's Day fixture against Bolton Wanderers at Burnden Park proved to be Baron's final league appearance for the club.
Baron moved to Southend United in March 1927, dropping into the Third Division South in search of greater playing opportunities. His time there demonstrated his effectiveness as a goalscorer. Over a five-year association with Southend, he scored 42 times in 64 appearances.
