Player Profile
The striker has an impressive scoring record at youth level, with 25 goals in 29 appearances for Germany at u-16, u-17, u-18 and u-19 level. Yesil was second top-scorer in the 2011 u-17 World Cup after netting six goals in seven matches as Germany finished third in Mexico. The youngster scored 57 goals in 71 matches for Bayer Leverkusen's youth teams in two years and had made one appearance for Sami Hyypia's club before joining Liverpool.
It was very hard to assess Yesil's progress in 2012/13 because although he started in both of the club's league cup matches during the season, the only other times he made the match-day squad was when he was an unused substitute for the Europa League matches against Young Boys of Bern away and Anzhi Makhachkala at home. Yesil made just four appearances for Liverpool's Under-21 team in 2013/14, scoring once against Aston Villa in early December. Two cruciate ligament ruptures in a year, his first on international duty with Germany Under-21s and his second training with Liverpool, have ensured Yesil became the forgotten man of the youth set-up. Liverpool loaned Yesil to Luzern for the 2015/16 campaign where he played under the guidance of former Red, Markus Babbel. Liverpool released Yesil in the summer of 2016 and he remained without a club until January 2017 when he joined Greek side Panionios. He helped his new club secure qualification for the Europa League, then scored three goals in twenty league appearances in 2017/18.
Yesil wasn't offered a new deal and he returned to Germany on 3 September 2018, joining third division KFC Uerdingen 05. Despite the level he still barely featured, his appearances being limited to two substitute appearances totalling ten minutes of action and a couple of regional cup games. Yesil left the club on 1 July 2019 after the expiry of his contract. He kept himself fit by training with German 5th division club TSV Meerbusch. Yesil signed for Turkish third division club Ankara Demirspor on a free transfer on 26 December 2019. Six of his seven appearances were from the bench and after failing to even make the first three matchday squads of 2020/21 he returned to Germany at the beginning of October, signing for Homberg, who played in the regionalised fourth tier. He scored two goals and fourteen of his 22 appearances were from the bench. He dropped another level for 2021/22, joining DJK St Tonis of the Oberliga Niederrhein, one of twelve state leagues that make up the fifth tier of the German league system. He also began working in an air filter factory but harboured hopes of a return to the professional game if he could find a consistent run of form. After nine goals in 22 appearances, he joined another Oberliga Niederrhein side, Ratingen 04/19, for 2022/23. He scored four goals in thirty appearances leading to another move, this time to CSV Marathon Krefeld of the State league system, Germany's sixth tier.
